Route

Taking us roughly eight thousand kilometres on highways, freeways, parkways, interstates, country roads and city boulevards this is our route:*

You’re missing the best parts! You need to see New England! Maine, Boston, Cape Cod, Newport, the list goes on…

Millions have taken your route before. Stay off the beaten path!

Millions might have taken our route but we have never been there… We are in fact planning on staying off the beaten track as much as possible but we have decided to give New England a miss. This route is by no means final. 🙂

To stay off the beaten path, stay off the Interstates, avoid chain restaurants and hotels, look into state parks and campgrounds, stuff like that. You are going to get very bored between points C and D without some planning – the shortest route is still further than driving from Oslo to Gibraltar, and the geography is not nearly as interesting, once you leave middle Tennessee.

You have a few general choices.

    1. You can take the Southern coastal route, maybe cutting across the bottom of Georgia or northern Florida – it’s a long way down to the Keys. Pick up the Gulf coast (Appalachicola Bay, Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Mobile, Biloxi, New Orleans, NASA at Houston, Big Bend Nat’l Park, El Paso, maybe up to Santa Fe and over to Flagstaff. The trip will be dominated by the summer heat, but there’s a lot to see and do if you can work around it.

    2. “Middle America” either generally along I-20 or I-40 west, picking spots of interest. Still hot, and maybe not as interesting for you. If you pass through the Dallas area, send me an e-mail. I live in the area, and one of your Dads asked me to feed you hungry guys a meal if I saw you.

    3. A Northern route. You can pass through Colorado on the way down to the Grand Canyon. Avoid Minnesota. Historically, Norwegians who see Minnesota never leave.
